Joshua’s Tree

Did you know that I used to have a career in magazines? It’s true; when I first started out as an editorial assistant, my job was, among other things, to write pithy headlines like the one above. Yeah…I don’t have that job anymore.

Good thing, because my current job is way rad. I get to travel lots, eat bunches of continental breakfasts and hang out with people on the happiest day of their lives. Pretty cool, huh?

One of our most recent — and totally most fun — trips was out to Joshua Tree to photograph Erica & Andy’s wedding. I love the desert! Love love love it. I love the hot wind, the nothingness and the big sky. And I love finding cool little spots like Sacred Sands Bed & Breakfast; an architectural feast that hosts weddings and other events and has only two–count ‘em, two–rooms that they rent out. What a great find, and an amazing venue for a wedding.

I shouldn’t be, but I’m always surprised at how my clients’ venues fit their personalities. Minimalist, sophisticated, modern; these are words that could describe either Erica, or Andy; or the B&B. The light was…well, the light was phenomenal. When I saw that their “altar” was entirely backlit, I squee’d with excitement instead of cursing the lack of ambient light. I loved the symbolism of the white light, walking into the light, entering it together, holding hands, starting a new life as Mr. & Mrs. Very cool. Well done, guys:)

This is a handful of my favorites; hard to choose, for sure. But I think the highlight of the day for me was tromping through the completely wild desert behind the B&B, looking for “picturesque” locations in which to do the couples’ portraits. Hot as balls, but fun as hell:)

Yeah, I’d definitely say that my career has taken a major unswing, though my choice of words hasn’t changed a whole lot.

caroline - it’s so amazing to see what shots are your faves. absolutely beautiful.

Chris Parker - Love them all! I so miss the desert.
