and so we begin, with a beginning

I love to shoot, and I love to write. I liked it most when my blog and my portfolio site were one in the same. During that time, I blogged almost daily.

They’re separate now (for lots of reasons) and I realize that my blog has been neglected a bit. Well it’s coming back and in a big, fat way. I’m planning on blogging not just galleries of couples or shoots (which, yeah, are pretty) but everything: my dogs (aka “the vatos), my husband (aka “Mr. Susan”), things I’ve learned about shooting that may help you and places I’ve found that you might think are cool. Pretty much everything that goes on here in the studio.

Except lunch. I’ll never blog about what I had for lunch.

This is Virginia & Mike. (Yes, yes, this is a couple I just shot, this morning, in fact, but I have to start somewhere, yes?.) They’re getting married next year on my birthday (guess who’s getting an extra piece of cake that day?) . We hung out at the Santa Monica Pier this morning for a couple of hours and I got some great photos of them. They’re very laid back and not into posing (all my clients are like that, and I love them for it), and some of the best shots I got are when I told them to just get down on the blanket we brought and put in the sand. It seemed for awhile like they were just napping, cuddled up against each other. Those 20 minutes reminded all four of us how nice it is to sometimes just go sit on the beach for no reason.

Anyway, if you enjoy reading my blog, yay! I’ll be writing more. I may even post a short video featuring me singing the new song I made up for the vatos yesterday. Um, I may not post that, but you’ll have to check back and see.

And now I’m rambling. Oh! I know what I wanted to include, it’s what I put on my Facebook page when I uploaded this photo. If you look at this picture, and listen to “God Help the Girl” singing “Come Monday Night,” you’ll instantly be transported to London, 1965, and you’ll never forget the feeling on falling in love over and over and over again. Every time you see that face. That one face.

Go listen now. Go fall in love.
